MCQ Showcases Vision for Media Ecosystem at 2nd Qatar Economic Forum

The second edition of the ‘Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg’, a brainchild of MCQ and Bloomberg Media, returned to Doha in June 2022. With a focus on equalizing global recovery, the event brought together thought-leaders and decision-makers from various sectors to discuss the latest economic trends and innovations.

Featuring participation from global business leaders such as Tesla Founder Elon Musk, the Forum drew over 1,000 attendees from all over the world and more than 75 mainstage speakers. Topics discussed included the impact of the pandemic on the economy, the role of technology in driving economic growth, and the importance of sustainable and equitable economic recovery.

The Forum is a testament to MCQ’s mission to create a powerful and innovative media ecosystem in Qatar, where exceptional ideas and content converge. Its consistent success as a prominent annual gathering for global business leaders underscores MCQ's successful partnership with Bloomberg Media. Euronews' 'The Exchange' films at beIN Studios under MCQ collaboration

MCQ and beIN Studios launched a multi-year collaboration in September 2021. Under the partnership, MCQ will facilitate access to beIN's Studios and production facilities for potential regional and international media partners. One of MCQ’s key partners, Euronews, has thereby been able to use the studios for their production requirements of ‘The Exchange’, one of Euronews’ most popular locally-produced shows.

The Exchange places ideas and innovations at the forefront of business, featuring interviews with business leaders and decision-makers, from FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, to His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways. To date, The Exchange has recorded more than 22 episodes at the beIN Studios.

Filming of The Exchange moved to a larger studio over time, drawing on more advanced filming capabilities, from a multi-camera setup to state-of-the-art lighting, graphics, sound, and production capabilities. beIN Studios also offer seamless content transfer, making it a one-stop-shop for all production needs.

This partnership between MCQ and beIN Studios is a testament to the collaborative efforts of two Qatari entities to promote media advancement in Qatar. MCQ believes that this collaboration will support the growth of media and content creation in the country.

MCQ’s Board of Directors Announced

The former Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani issued Decree No. 4 of 2021 on forming the Board of Directors of MCQ, formally appointing His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulla Bin Ali Bin Saud Al-Thani as Chairman and Her Excellency Lolwah Bint Rashid Mohammed Al-Khater as Vice Chairman.

With a focus on film, radio, print, gaming, and TV, the Board is responsible for attracting local and international investment, developing a framework for the regulation of the media industry, and establishing MCQ as a catalyst for progress and investment. Following this commitment, MCQ is growing into a global home for media and creative talent that cultivates creativity, innovation, and diversity, enabling high-quality content to be produced locally and shared globally.

MCQ and Euronews Join Forces, Fostering Talent and Industry Growth

Launching a landmark collaboration, Media City Qatar and French television news network, Euronews, entered a strategic partnership in February 2021. Under the agreement, Euronews established a regional office at MCQ, offering high-quality training programs and locally-produced content for all ages. This partnership underscores MCQ’s commitment to supporting media and technology companies as they flourish and expand, positioning Qatar as a leader in the ever-evolving media landscape. MCQ aims to boost creative talent in Qatar and the region through strategic partnerships, making the country a prime investment destination for media and affiliated industries.

Qatar's Home for the Media Community

While MCQ was created as a collaborative home for talent, innovation, and achievement in the media industry, the Qatar Free Zones focuses on promoting foreign investment and providing a platform for commercial, industrial, and technological businesses to operate in Qatar.

Both entities share a common goal of positioning Qatar as a leader in the regional and global arena, yet MCQ maintains its distinct identity as the country’s sole comprehensive home for the media community.
