3rd Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg Concludes with Resounding Success

With more than 3,000 in-person participants from 127 countries, including many high-level dignitaries, the third Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg (QEF) served as a platform for meaningful discussions and exchange, paving the way to better economic opportunities locally and globally.

The Forum, which took place from 23 to 25 May under the high patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, explored the latest trends in finance, energy, healthcare, and technology, and examined their potential to drive future growth, through a series of keynote interviews, panel discussions, and interactive workshops.

His Highness the Amir attended the inaugural panel discussion, and the opening was also attended by President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda, Paraguay President Mario Abdo Benitez, Armenia's President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo, Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and HRH Prince  Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud The Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia.

Qatari dignitaries who addressed the event included H.E. the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani; H.E. the Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; H.E. the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Eng. Saad Sherida al-Kaabi; H.E. the Governor of Qatar Central Bank, Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani; Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H.E. Akbar Al-Baker; and Qatar Investment Authority CEO, Mansoor Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud.

For MCQ whose multi-year partnership with Bloomberg Media Group first brought the event to life, QEF 2023 was a sweeping success, bringing together several global business leaders, as well as over 60 regional and international speakers, made up of government leaders, CEOs, global investors, and influential voices from the worlds of culture, sport, and entertainment.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency following the conclusion of the Forum, the Chairperson of the Supreme Committee Organising the Qatar Economic Forum and Media City Qatar CEO, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, noted that events such as QEF bring direct economic returns, including the recovery of the tourism sector, increased hotel occupancy, and reservations, and indirect ones, such as promoting the country as a destination for all events and consolidating Qatar’s pivotal role and global standing.

MCQ and Bloomberg Media Group signed a new multi-year contract on the sidelines of the event, securing QEF as an annual destination for dialogue and knowledge-exchange until 2027.

Media City Qatar lent its voice to the Eye on Qatar series, published by the Wall Street Journal in collaboration with the Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar. With a focus on Qatar's teeming opportunities and initiatives, the piece points to a dynamic and exciting ecosystem for media players.

CEO of MCQ, Sheikh Ali Bin Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al-Thani emphasizes the critical stage that Qatar's media ecosystem has reached, particularly after the global spotlight on the country in 2022: “We now find ourselves at a critical stage for Qatar’s media ecosystem. MCQ signs new contract with Bloomberg Media Group

MCQ has solidified its long-standing partnership with one of the world's most recognizable media brands, Bloomberg Media Group, through a new contract, signed on the sidelines of the 'Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg’ on 23 May 2023. The agreement, signed by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani, CEO of Media City Qatar, and Mr. M. Scott Havens, CEO of Bloomberg Media, secures several future editions of the Forum until 2027, making it a vital annual meeting point for global leaders.

Since 2020, MCQ and Bloomberg Media Group have partnered on delivering the Qatar Economic Forum, which has grown into a flagship business event. Its third edition concluded recently in Doha, bringing together more than 3,000 in-person attendees. Over the years, the Forum has attracted a roster of high-profile speakers, including His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani; Elon Musk, Founder of Tesla; Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies; Ben van Beurden, CEO of Shell; and Dr. Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA); among many others.

MCQ Media Roundtable ahead of the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg 2023

Chairman of the Supreme Committee Organising the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) and Media City Qatar CEO, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, led an exclusive Media Roundtable ahead of the third Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg, which took place in Doha from May 23 to 25 under the theme ‘A New Global Growth Story’.

He was joined by the Executive Director of the Permanent Committee for Organising Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Head of Logistics for the Organising Committee of QEF, Mubarak Ajlan Al Kuwari, along with the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Committee Organising QEF and Deputy CEO, Chief Legal Officer, and Board Secretary Qatar Financial Centre, Nasser Al Taweel. The roundtable drew the participation of over 15 prestigious media outlets with around 30 journalists, photographers, and a camera crew, whose presence ensured comprehensive coverage and a multitude of perspectives captured, following the event.

As reported by The Peninsula, Sheikh Ali said the Forum solidifies Qatar’s position as a global platform for dialogue on various economic topics such as inflation, investment in emerging markets, energy transformation, trade, and sports, among others. He also stated that launching QEF has helped establish a diverse media platform that brings together global business leaders to formulate actionable steps toward economic growth.

With more than 100 high-level speakers from business and world politics on the mainstage as well as 60 breakout session speakers, QEF 2023 has become a unique and powerful platform to discuss the most important issues in business, cover the Gulf’s far-reaching impact, and connect influential voices across global industries and communities.

MCQ and Amazon Web Services Explore Potential Collaboration in Qatar's Media Ecosystem

MCQ held a successful workshop with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs, in May 2023. With the goal of strengthening Qatar's media ecosystem, promoting digital transformation in the industry, and fostering collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar (IPA Qatar), the workshop brought together several local players, including the Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar Development Bank, Ooredoo, Al Jazeera Media Network, and MEEZA.

Starting with an introduction to Amazon’s culture of innovation, the two-day brainstorming workshop touched on important areas of customer targeting, empathy maps for audiences, and strategies to visualize the customer experience and translate big ideas into visual journeys.

A number of Qatari entities have built ties with AWS in recent years, including the MCIT and IPA Qatar, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the cloud service provider on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg in 2022.

As Qatar’s emerging global home for media, MCQ is set to become a catalyst to develop these collaborative efforts and drive the country’s digital transformation and tech development, unlocking new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs from around the globe.

MCQ partners with Qatar’s largest Hospitality Sector to Host QEF

With the successful completion of the third edition of the 'Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg', MCQ forged a new partnership with Katara Hospitality. This multi-year agreement will see the two entities working closely together to facilitate future editions of the Forum, inviting prominent global figures, including business leaders, Heads of State, and influential voices, to share their insights on the global economy at some of Qatar's most prominent location in Lusail City.
