Media City Qatar demonstrated its commitment to supporting the media industry at the Web Summit Qatar 2024. As a key participant, Media City Qatar sponsored the Media Village at the summit, providing a dynamic platform for networking and collaboration among industry professionals.

In addition to sponsoring the Media Village, Media City Qatar also participated among other entities in the Invest Qatar pioneering 'Startup Qatar' initiative. This initiative aims to connect Web Summit attendees with key stakeholders and provides a comprehensive online platform to address all business needs in one place.

Media City Qatar enters into an agreement with QFC to boost Qatar’s Media Ecosystem

Media City Qatar (MCQ), established to attract and regulate investment opportunities to support the media ecosystem in Qatar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA), the legal and tax arm of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a leading onshore financial and business center in the region. The MoU aims to facilitate the establishment of media companies in Qatar.

Under the agreement, the QFC will register media companies pre-approved by MCQ, which will be licensed by both the QFC and MCQ. Registration and Licensing details will be recorded on the QFC platform. This partnership enables licensed companies to conduct business in Qatar according to MCQ’s permitted activities. The QFC will facilitate all necessary governmental procedures and tax-related processes in accordance with the legal framework and regulations of Qatar. Meanwhile, MCQ will diligently oversee the companies’ compliance with the applicable regulations for media entities in Qatar.

Furthermore, the two parties will collaborate to promote each other’s programs and activities and evaluate opportunities for mutually beneficial projects toward developing the media sector in Qatar.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the MoU, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Chairman, MCQ, said, “This strategic partnership will empower Media City to attract and license media companies, further enriching Qatar’s vibrant media ecosystem. We extend our gratitude to the QFC Chairman and Minister of Commerce and Industry, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Abdullah Al-Thani, for facilitating the signing of this pivotal memorandum of understanding, which sets the stage for driving growth in the media industry and contributing to Qatar’s economic diversification. ONE Championship Returns to Middle East with ONE 166: Qatar on March 1 at Lusail Sports Arena

December 7, 2023 – Singapore: ONE Championship™ (ONE), the world’s largest martial arts organization, official presenting partner Qatar Tourism, official media partner Media City Qatar, and official partner Ooredoo today announced that ONE Championship will make its on-ground debut in Qatar on March 1 at the Lusail Sports Arena with ONE 166: Qatar.

The event will feature 5 ONE World Championship fights across MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Submission Grappling. Additional event details and headline bouts will also be announced in the coming weeks.

3rd Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg Concludes with Resounding Success

With more than 3,000 in-person participants from 127 countries, including many high-level dignitaries, the third Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg (QEF) served as a platform for meaningful discussions and exchange, paving the way to better economic opportunities locally and globally.

The Forum, which took place from 23 to 25 May under the high patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, explored the latest trends in finance, energy, healthcare, and technology, and examined their potential to drive future growth, through a series of keynote interviews, panel discussions, and interactive workshops.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency following the conclusion of the Forum, the Chairperson of the Supreme Committee Organising the Qatar Economic Forum and Media City Qatar CEO, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, noted that events such as QEF bring direct economic returns, including the recovery of the tourism sector, increased hotel occupancy, and reservations, and indirect ones, such as promoting the country as a destination for all events and consolidating Qatar’s pivotal role and global standing.

MCQ and Bloomberg Media Group signed a new multi-year contract on the sidelines of the event, securing QEF as an annual destination for dialogue and knowledge-exchange until 2027.

Media City Qatar lent its voice to the Eye on Qatar series, published by the Wall Street Journal in collaboration with the Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar. With a focus on Qatar's teeming opportunities and initiatives, the piece points to a dynamic and exciting ecosystem for media players.

CEO of MCQ, Sheikh Ali Bin Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al-Thani emphasizes the critical stage that Qatar's media ecosystem has reached, particularly after the global spotlight on the country in 2022: “We now find ourselves at a critical stage for Qatar’s media ecosystem.
