Media City Qatar Partners with Qatar Museums and Doha Film Institute to Spotlight Qatari and Arab Filmmakers at Venice Biennale.

Doha, Qatar – Media City Qatar (MCQ) proudly announces its collaboration with Qatar Museums for the exhibition, “Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices,” at the renowned Venice Biennale, the art world’s most prestigious festival.

Displayed at ACP–Palazzo Franchetti from 20th April to 24th November 2024, the exhibition features over 40 works by diverse directors from the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. These cinematic narratives delve into contemporary themes of community, memory, transnationalism, and displacement.

Media City Qatar is honored to support this significant showcase, providing a platform for filmmakers from Qatar, the Arab world, and beyond. As a hub for media innovation in Doha, Media City Qatar is dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering creativity across various sectors, including broadcasting, digital publishing, gaming, and emerging technologies like AI.

Media City Qatar hosts professional content producers to explore opportunities in Doha

On Monday 25th March, Media City Qatar was pleased to host a gathering of top professional content producers from around the world to explore production opportunities in Doha. The event took place at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl - and was attended by over 50 industry representatives.

Participants were presented with ways in which Media City Qatar can assist them in setting up and producing content in Qatar, including co-production, industry-leading incentives, and access to world class production facilities. Qatar’s striking architecture and scenery and unique culture have increasingly been featured in international media, especially since the FIFA World Cup 2022. The primary objective of this gathering, however, was to meet the growing demand for content commissioning in the MENA region and to demonstrate to production houses the supportive regulatory and modern business environment and financial benefits they can enjoy with Media City Qatar.

Both participants and hosts had wide-ranging and illuminating discussions, culminating in a Q&A and a joyous Suhoor. Throughout the evening, senior members of Media City Qatar team, were on hand to explain how Media City Qatar can help grow their business and ensure that all guests had a true experience of Qatari hospitality.

Media City Qatar enters into an agreement with QFC to boost Qatar’s Media Ecosystem

Media City Qatar (MCQ), established to attract and regulate investment opportunities to support the media ecosystem in Qatar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA), the legal and tax arm of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a leading onshore financial and business center in the region. The MoU aims to facilitate the establishment of media companies in Qatar.

Under the agreement, the QFC will register media companies pre-approved by MCQ, which will be licensed by both the QFC and MCQ. Registration and Licensing details will be recorded on the QFC platform. This partnership enables licensed companies to conduct business in Qatar according to MCQ’s permitted activities. The QFC will facilitate all necessary governmental procedures and tax-related processes in accordance with the legal framework and regulations of Qatar. Meanwhile, MCQ will diligently oversee the companies’ compliance with the applicable regulations for media entities in Qatar.

Furthermore, the two parties will collaborate to promote each other’s programs and activities and evaluate opportunities for mutually beneficial projects toward developing the media sector in Qatar.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the MoU, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Chairman, MCQ, said, “This strategic partnership will empower Media City to attract and license media companies, further enriching Qatar’s vibrant media ecosystem. We extend our gratitude to the QFC Chairman and Minister of Commerce and Industry, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Abdullah Al-Thani, for facilitating the signing of this pivotal memorandum of understanding, which sets the stage for driving growth in the media industry and contributing to Qatar’s economic diversification. ONE Championship Returns to Middle East with ONE 166: Qatar on March 1 at Lusail Sports Arena

The event will feature 5 ONE World Championship fights across MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Submission Grappling. Additional event details and headline bouts will also be announced in the coming weeks.
